Today was dreary in our nation’s Capital. After a long and exciting day learning, we decided to explore.
The last time I was here was many years ago. I was a child and it was no less amazing now.
It feels strange to be a tourist here. This place is our history. It holds or greatest moments and our worst. It memorializes these moments. And somehow, “we, the people” have not come to see this place enough. For all the good and bad that had happened here, regardless of your political beliefs, it is something you should witness in person.
Because it is yours.
See the White House and think of all the decisions made in that building. Visit the Lincoln Memorial and look up at the words of our 16th President, carved in the only way that can convey how epic they were. Place your hand on the names of those who gave their lives in Vietnam. Look out at the Washington Monument and reflect.
